A Book About Light

Post 11AWe’ve been talking about light recently here on the blog.

Light, as we’ve noted, might be the most basic of elements a designer must consider. Much of the power of light to affect our emotions is rooted in our biological and cultural history.

Humans are wired to be attracted to light, and it can set the tone for the whole project by being bright and cheery, stark and dramatic or warm and comforting.

An excellent book about light and architecture is Light Perspectives between culture and technology.

The book discusses light in terms of its physical properties, as a design element in architecture, and perhaps most intriguing, as an element of culture.

The authors say the book intends to promote communication and aid dialogue between designers and engineers, building owners and planners, professionals and laymen– which is obviously a good thing.
